The purpose of Youth Action Councils (YAC) is to give youth a voice in our communities. We take an approach that focuses on the strengths of individual young people. We seek to create a healthy foundation for our youth advocates to use their potential and empower them to develop skills by providing a safe space for youth voice. Youth Action Councils are active in Routt and Moffat Counties and plan to expand to Grand County.
Moffat County Youth Action Council (MCYAC) is all about providing a voice to youth living in Moffat County. MCYAC members have the ability to organize and implement various activities, events, projects, and community outreach such as Thrills or 5th Quarter events. We seek to create a healthy foundation for our youth advocates to use their potential and empower them to develop skills by providing a safe space for youth voice. MCYAC is open to both Middle and High School aged youth, and meets regularly in Craig. To join MCYAC, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or follow us on Instagram!
Routt County currently has two Youth Action Councils, where the voices of young people are heard and empowered to create positive change in our communities through projects and by organizing prosocial events for youth. Both Steamboat Springs Teen Council and the Hayden Youth Action Council are open to High School aged youth. If you are interested in joining the Steamboat Springs Teen Council contact email@example.com and follow SS Teen Council on Instagram! The Partners Youth Scholarship supports youth who have been involved in a Partners program as they pursue higher education, including college, university, trade school, or a certification program. This scholarship provides opportunity and encouragement to pursue continued education for youth with financial need who have participated in Partners programs.
UpRISE is a social justice based prevention program that uses education and skill building exercises to elevate voices of youth. UpRISE believes youth voice is defined as the active, distinct, and concentrated ways young people represent themselves throughout society. Young people have unique, critical perspectives of the world we live in and the ability to creatively think of solutions. We use the UpRISE curriculum in all of our Youth Action Councils to help youth build knowledge and skills that will help them advocate for issues they care deeply about.
